Established in July 2001, Australian Funds Marketing Ltd (AFM) is a independent financial services company that represents boutique international fund managers in the Australian marketplace.
AFM acts as Responsible Entity to Australian-domiciled Trusts offering a one-stop shop to international fund managers wishing to enter the Australian market. We assume responsibility for the services provided by our service providers including custody, unit pricing, applications and redemptions, accounting, tax and statutory reporting and all compliance matters.
Central to our business model is sales, marketing and distribution capabilities. Our target markets include:
Wholesale - including industry and public sector funds and other wholesale distribution channels
Retail - the company holds retail Australian Financial Services Licence enabling us to place our managers products on the wraps and platforms and be marketed by financial planners and dealer groups.
Asset consultants - where our objective is to place our fund managers' products on their approved product lists.
AFM selects its managers following extensive research and evaluation. Manager characteristics we look for include high levels of equity ownership in the business by the employees, significant levels of investment in the funds they manage, a sound investment process and consistent out-performance of benchmark indices over long periods of time. In the future, a suite of complementary products will be offered through our Company.
AFM's Trusts enable Australian investors to gain access to our managers' products at a competitive and attractive cost. The Trusts are represented on an exclusive basis and would otherwise not be available in the Australian marketplace. When combined with our other services, they form a distribution platform enabling Australian investors to invest in offshore-domiciled Funds to avoid the complications of Australian taxation laws that govern offshore-based funds.
As Responsible Entity, AFM manages registered investment schemes on behalf of unitholders and is responsible for managing and investing scheme property, holding scheme property on trust for the unitholders and ensuring that the Funds are managed and conducted in accordance with the Corporations Act 2001 and the Fund's Constitution.
AFM has appointed State Street Australia Limited to act as custodian and administrator of the Trusts managed by AFM, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu audit the Trust and Mallesons Stephen Jaques are the legal advisors to the company.
